Game Description:
Hide from the monster and escape, or find a way to fight it in this short horror game. Your parents abandoned you to your luck on the family's summer home. Something broke in and now you must hide and figure out a plan to survive. Use sound and visual cues to avoid the monster. Interact with the objects around you to aid you in surviving the monster.
Design Decisions:
-
Tight Deadlines- This project was undertaken during the evening following work commitments, resulting in limited available development time. Because of this, during the design phase, I needed to be mindful of implementation complexities and strive to strike a balance between enjoyable gameplay and keeping implementation complexity low.
-
Designing for Atmosphere- To create a convincing ominous atmosphere, I designed a physics-based grabbing system as the central gameplay mechanic to maximize player interaction with their surroundings. This choice introduced a deliberate slow pace to the gameplay, demanding players to be more intentional in their actions. This approach intensifies the tension, especially when the player finds themselves pursued.
